DIET IN THYROID DISEASES

- The thyroid gland regulates many bodily processes such as metabolism, sleep, digestion and hormone balance. Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland is overactive and produces too much thyroid hormone, while hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland is underactive and produces too little thyroid hormone. When evaluating the symptoms of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, they both have changes in bowel habits and fatigue in common.

- Our goal throughout diet counseling is to discover your nutrition plan to improve your gut health and increase thyroid functions.

STOMACH ACID INSUFFICIENCY

When food comes into your stomach, your stomach produces acid to start the digestive process. This is called stomach acid or hydrochloric acid (HCl).

- Stomach acid is important for digestion of proteins, absorption of minerals and control of parasites/bacteria/fungi. Low stomach acid increases the risk of SIBO and yeast infections.

- It impairs mineral absorption by disrupting nutrient absorption and causes problems in the digestive system, especially the esophagus and small intestine.

- During our nutritional counseling process, our goal is to make stomach acid levels healthy, balance intestinal health and reduce your current symptoms.

SIBO AND DIET MANAGEMENT

- SIBO is not a digestive disorder. Rather, it is a laboratory finding that indicates a specific type of dysbiosis. Many diseases and constant use of certain drug groups contribute to SIBO (IBS, hypothyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, restless legs syndrome, rosacea and non-celiac gluten sensitivity , use of proton pump inhibitors, # h.pylori ..).

- The definition of SIBO is excessive bacterial growth in the small intestine. This disrupts the intestinal balance and causes digestive problems.

- Symptoms; gas, diarrhea/constipation, abdominal pain/cramps, vitamin B12 deficiency, other vitamin/mineral/fat malabsorption due to nutrient malabsorption, fatigue/weakness..

Finding the underlying cause for Sibo will provide the best solution. The low FODMAP diet, specific carbohydrate diet (SCD), and #elementaldiet may help with SIBO. During this diet process, our goal is to eliminate the symptoms of SIBO and discover your trigger foods.
